Cholesterol-lowering injections and double plasma filtration are two medical technologies used to treat high cholesterol.
Cholesterol-lowering injections: This treatment involves regular injections of specific medications, such as PCSK9 inhibitors, which can significantly lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or "bad" cholesterol in the blood. These injections are usually administered every two to four weeks and can effectively reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Double plasma filtration (LDL apheresis): This is a more aggressive treatment method used for patients with extremely high cholesterol levels. In this process, the patient's blood is drawn and passed through a machine that filters out excess cholesterol, then the cleaned blood is returned to the patient's body. This can rapidly reduce cholesterol levels.
Both methods are important supplements for patients for whom traditional cholesterol management strategies, such as lifestyle changes and standard medication therapies, are ineffective.
